Assignment #7 Journal Reflection - Ticket out the Door

Using Word - Write a brief reflection and include:

  • What impact do you expect to see as a result of using this technology in the classroom?
The iPad is another tool that I get to use in my classroom. There are several ways that I will be able to use one ipad. But the best way to properly use them is to have about 5-10 of them so small groups can work on assignments/reinforcement/projects. So with only having one, I hope to use it in a small group setting...maybe 1-3 students at a time. Here are some ideas:
1. Providing apps for reinforcement in math, language, reading activities
2. Viewing a video that will be used in class
3. Providing an app that is just for fun. Sometimes they just need a break from work and a reward for doing good work.
4. Creating a video or a story board for any of the subject areas.
5. Recording a poem or story they wrote.

  • How do you plan to continue to use your iPad in your personal life? Professional life?
This sort of goes with my answer to the above question. In my personal life I have founds some apps that are books, tools, or games I may like to play. My children have also found some games they like. We've had fun with the camera and made some silly pictures that they then emailed to grandma and grandpa.

  • What have you learned from others' sharing that you would like to try or explore more of?
We've had a great time sharing some of the apps. Learning what other people like and dislike about an app is important as I move forward with finding some more apps that are appropriate for my classroom or family. The reviews of peers are very important to me as it might save some time in searching.

Unfortunately, through most of this class, I was on the higher end of the spectrum as far as ability and capbility go with using an ipad and all the other items we used. So for me I didn't learn too much. I've already had a wikipage for my classroom, an itunes account set up with music, pocasts, and such, and created many movies using animoto.

I really wanted to learn more ways to use the ipad not the internet and it's sources in the classroom. A more in depth look at various apps and other things would have been very helpful to me.

  • Describe the presentation you gave today and the application you shared / demonstrated.
I shared the "Best Timer" app. by smartphoneware.com. I've been looking for a nice time that can be shown on a white board/smart board. It is visually appealing and it has 4 different choices. It will be very helpful, when they have projects or work that is too be timed. They will be able to see the time count down or lapse depending on which time you choose. The four choices are Digital Sand Timer, Kitchen Timer, Countdown, and Stopwatch. The alarm choices were amazing to me. There are many too choice from and they are nice and clear. Plus they play for a while which is helpful. The kids will then be able to hear the timer no matter what activity they are doing. Plus you could always plug in speakers.
Others from smartphone that I liked:
Best Coin - Flip a virtual coin to play "Heads or Tails". Choose from several coins or a Yes/No version.
Glow Draw! - Drawing and glowing at the same time. The kids love it.
Mood Finger Scan - Scan your finger and discover the mood!! A good party app or just for fun....Again kids like it and so do the adults:)
